I'm thinking of writing a blog about hollywood and it would be me analysing films and considering whether they are anti feminist, etc....
What could I include in it?
Are there any books I could read about this?
Any other ideas and help?
Thank you.|||I took a course at UCLA a while ago about Women in Film. We watched a ton of films, and the most interesting topic to come out of all this was the question of films posing as feminist. One was "Norma Rae" (1979), where a single mother (Sally Field) tries to start a union. Which is fine, except that the moral of the story is that she couldn't have done it without the help of an out-of-town male union organizer. There are plenty of examples of this white knight theory, from the obvious -Cinderella, Pretty Woman - to the sneaky, Working Girl, Silence of the Lambs. All enjoyable movies, but...once you think about this idea, it's hard not to (even for a guy like me) ignore it when you see it.|||How Hollywood is run by men and the double standard in movies. The women are always young even if it seems ridiculous (young actress paired with over 60 actor) and there are very few parts for women over 40. Women are still being objectified in film and while it's perfectly fine for older pudgy actors to have a significant part (think Jack Nicholson, Michael Douglas) there isn't one older pudgy woman actor that is accepted mainstream with the exception of a very few (think Judy Dench, Meryl Streep). Women are still being used as primarily eye candy.|||Is there any truth to the rumor that any starlet and even star must have made a porno in order to have gotten into the "non-porno-legitimate" movie and tv business to begin with? And that 90% of the porno industry is driven by this not acknowledged "legitimate" dynamic. Kinda of like major religions not dealing with their known problems and trying to ignore the law-suits away for "God" and good and goodness' sake?|||You can take just about any B movie (Sci-Fi or otherwise) especially from the 50's through the 70' and cringe at the way women were considered then, and you could contrast that with the image of women in movies now, and note how much or how little change there is, and weather it is ultimately for the better or not.....Hope that helps!....
