i currently live in australia and want to finish school before looking towards a very serious acting career. should i move to america straight away or what? what should happen if i want to successful in hollywood?|||Is acting your passion? That burning desire to do all that you can to achieve that goal? If it is and not just a passing fancy then you will be successful. You may not be a star but then again only 2% of the acting industry are. There are many successful actors who do make a living in this field yet are relatively unknown.
Start with acting lessons. Acting is a craft, no matter what your level is there is always something new to learn. It is a skill set that you develop over time and not just something you can learn out of a book (although I do suggest reading as much on the subject as you can.) A good instructor will make you feel comfortable with uncomfortable situations.
Get as much experience in Australia. Do workshops, join a community theater, work on student films or performance pieces and don't limit yourself in any one category.
An agent helps so when you feel ready you may want to audition for one.
Sorry I don't have time to go further in depth but the answer to your question is a seminar in itself.|||Since none of us here are successful in Hollywood, our opinions aren't worth much.
Suggestions: Study the careers of those you admire and see what they did. Be true to you, though...don't be a clone. Have a fallback plan, as Hollywood is full of waitresses-who-are-really-actresses. Getting your school done beforehand sounds like an excellent move.|||finish school.
go hollywood,
find someone in the know and sleep with them|||Try enrolling in acting, singing, dancing classes. Get into a drama school with a good reputation foe turning out working (not famous) actors who are constantly employed (95% of actors are unemployed at any time)
Hang around theatres get to know casting directors, directors, theatre managers, producers. Write to tv studios or small production companies and see if you can observe them working.
Most of all you need a lot of luck. You don't need to go to the states, have a look at the early careers of some famous Aussie actors and you'll see most started at home.
Good luck, it's a tough business to try and make it in
Lots of love a struggling theatre director
